New Music – 28 May 2012

Ok, who watched the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday? Come on, admit it. Sweden’s Loreen was the runaway winner, leaving the Russian grannies well behind. Engelbert managed to come second last, beating only Norway, who were probably pleased to get any points at all.

Surely that’s the end for 76 year old Humperdinck? Even the most annoying twins in the world, Ireland’s Jedward, managed to accumulate more points than him. I’ve met the pair – and they are even more irritating in real life.

Azerbaijan’s own Emin performed after the competitors and did a fine job of showing a massive television audience what he can do. His new video Never Enough premiered yesterday – and we have here in Glasswerk for you.

Some interesting new albums out today, including names like Joey Ramone, Ultravox and PIL. Irish indie stars The Coronas have a new album out too. The band is going to be big in the UK and we have a review of their release posted.

Emile Sandi takes over at the top of the charts this week, just beating out guitar hero Joe Bonamassa. With new entries taking the top two spots it seems that the volatility of recent weeks remains.

There are several good singles out this week too. We have reviews on the site of the new ones from rappers Doomtree, indie boys Tellison and rockers Bleech. If that’s not variety then I don’t know what is!

There’s more music news and reviews to come during the week, of course – much more.
