Tom Williams and The Boat – Too Young

Too Young is the third single to be released from Tom Williams and The Boat’s Teenage Blood album. This one is perhaps more of a pop song than we are used to from the Kent based band, but the folk elements that they most commonly draw on are in there too.

Too Young is upbeat from the start and marries Williams’ gentle vocals with a catchy guitar riff that runs right through the song. The vocal harmonies on the chorus are lovely too. And I’m sure the violin is in the mix as well; it can be heard just before the sudden end to the track.

This is a good track for Tom Williams and The Boat to release as a single and I can see it getting airplay. There is a folky feel to the melody but it is basically a three minute pop song with the vitality to appeal to a wide audience.

B side Right Side Of My Head is a slow and atmospheric track with almost spoken word lyrics that tell a disturbingly dark tale over an ominous bass line. Occasional bursts of guitar and a late violin part add to what is a fine short song.
