Battleships - In Retrospect

Battleships – In Retrospect

Sydney four-piece Battleships only formed in 2011 and have released just the one track so far, titled 'In Retrospect', but you'll be hard pushed to find a debut release which illustrates such intelligent songwriting and musicianship …not to mention 2012's hugest crescendo.

The band sets out to record as many of their rehearsals as possible, and ‘In Retrospect’ was birthed out of one of these many sessions. Battleships recorded, mixed and produced 'In Retrospect' themselves in a 100-year-old hall, adding a touch of vintage flavour. They then had it mastered in Sydney's Level 7 Studios by the renowned Don Bartley (The Vines, Metallica, Silverchair, The Living End).

Indie Shuffle praised their “moody, atmospheric brand of indie rock”, while the song has found high rotation on Aussie powerhouse radio station Triple J, who said of it “It’s great to hear some really intelligent, original indie again – this song has really got me excited and I’m looking forward to hearing more”.

In the past week Battleships have had their first UK radio play via 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne, as well as further support of New to Q, and Kim from Never Enough Notes said of them, “Haunting and hypnotic riffs coupled with moody, atmospheric vocals are what makes us sure Battleships will be on our radar for while yet”.
