The Muppets Review

Jason Segal should pat himself on the back for seeking to revive a much loved franchise and giving it a dust off ready for the limelight again.

This isn’t really a reboot as the past still exists for The Muppets. It is simply that people seem to have forgotten about them. Much in the same way that any fad, trend or start in particular finds the limelight and then vanishes off the face of the Earth. This pretty much is what happened to The Muppets. But enough time has passed for people to wake up and realise what we are missing in their absence.

Segal has also cleverly written in a story arc for his own character, Gary (in love with Amy Adams character Mary) who take his brother Walter (who is a Muppet) on a tour of the Muppet studios – only for them to find that all is not quite so well. Yes all is not well as an “Evil tycoon” is seeking to do evil business that will sully the good Muppet name.

Our team of heroes then set off on a mission to track down all of the leading characters. The goal to get them together to put on a show to raise money to save not only the future of the Muppets! And along the way there is many. Many (AMANY!) song numbers as well as a good few gags as we are reintroduced to some of the most classic of characters and as they finally come round to their live marathon production online!

The great thing about the Muppets is that it will appeal to older audiences who grew up on the series (yup it’s still the same kind of humour) as well as new audiences. The film is solid enough to act as a gateway to warrant a more solo Muppet escapade next time out. And a next time out is very much assured!

Disc-wise we suggest you head for the Blu-ray as it is crammed with so many more extras than the DVD version which only has an outake reel.
