With support from The Independent, TimeOut, Artrocker, 6music, XFM, and fresh off the back of a sweat-laden, queues-around-the-block show at the Old Blue Last, Whales In Cubicles are now building up steam ahead of a future album release with their sophomore single ‘Nowhere Flag’. Produced by Barny Barnicott (Arctic Monkeys, Temper Trap, Editors, Kasabian), the track paints a picture of a society that is struggling to find any meaning in the endless cycles of alienation and consumption that make up modernity.
The soon-to-be premiered video (July 23rd) is set in an eerily deserted London and stars friend and model, Emma Browning. Born out of political dissatisfaction and anger at the apathetic acceptance of the status-quo, ‘Nowhere Flag’ represents a growing generation of artists who seek to
actively engage with, rather than wearily escape from, the pressing issues of their times. “All popular music is in its very nature political”, argues frontman Stef Bernardi; “there is nothing more political than singing sweet about nothing when the world around you is falling apart”.
