Surya, London recently played host to a much anticipated EP launch from Xsara, a London based solo artist who borrows heavily from Jazz, Blues and Cabaret, and who is backed up by an eight-piece band of incredibly talented musicians when on stage.
On May 11th, Surya was turned into a 1940’s-themed venue, covered in flowers and glitter and offering a luxury buffet, specially conceived for the upcoming artist release. This wasn’t just a launch gig – this was a proper 1940’s experience. In the middle of a magical masquerade-inspired scenario, her debut release “Are You Living In A Paradox?” was beautifully presented, offering leftfield fans a great opportunity to hear one of the best new artists in a completely different and original context.
Vocalist, producer and composer Xsara Helmi never failed to engage her audience with her strong stage presence, her finely crafted evocative songs and her jazz-filled voice. Six new songs were written by Xsara, including opening track “The Scriptwriter”, which features elegant piano melodies and a blues-flavoured ambience.
The self released EP represents a fresh new start for Xsara and her band. “Are You Living In A Paradox?” is new, vibrant and oddly comforting, like a breath of fresh air – just what the London scene needs.
Whilst this was Xsara’s first launch in the year, there will certainly be many more news in the months and years to come. Xsara is set to play next at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern on July 24th.
