Batida returns with the irresistibly cheery ‘Alegria’, the third single to be lifted from his explosive debut LP released earlier this year through Soundway Records. Coming out on 8th August on 12″ vinyl and digital, the B-side features a remix of the album track 'Puxa' from Portuguese producer Beat Laden.
Electronica crosses with African psychedelia on this new single, the title of which means “Joy”. You can hear in the sample: “I am going to dance, full of joy, the music of the mad”. Simply put, it celebrates the simple and good things in life.
Angolan / Portuguese DJ Mpula aka Pedro Coquenão, the man behind Batida, mixes samples from 1970s Angolan music with the syncopated, synthetic rhythms of kuduro. His electric live show returns to the UK at this years WOMAD festival in July. Featuring dancers, MCs, VJs, live percussion and samples, Batida's live show takes in politics and social commentary but always brings it back to the party.
