Earlier this year when Canadian singer-songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen unleashed her infectious pop-ditty ‘Call Me Maybe’, (which she co-wrote) no one could have guessed it would have become the catchiest anthem of the year.
Claiming the #1 spot on the UK charts for four weeks (holding off Calvin Harris and Conor Maynard) and taking the #1 radio and TV airplay spot – the UK platinum-selling single has raced to #1 world-wide including the US Billboard charts (six weeks), Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand to name but a few. The 156million viewed video to accompany the song has had everyone from fellow pop star Katy Perry, to movie actor James Franco lip-synching and parodying it. Not to mention, The Roots, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Keith Urban, all having their own take on the pop-tastic tune.
Carly is now ready to follow up that smash-hit with another pop gem called ‘Good Time’ – a collaboration with Owl City (‘Fireflies’). The track is already a hit in the US, where it’s currently Top 10 on US iTunes and was written and produced by Adam Young (with Matthew Thiessen and Brian Lee as co-writers). ‘Good Time’ will be released on September 9th through Schoolboy Records/Interscope. (The track will also be available on Owl City’s album ‘The Midsummer Station’).
When asked about working with Jepsen, Young said:
“I love Carly’s song ‘Call Me Maybe’. I remember hearing it for the first time and immediately became a huge fan of hers – it is absolutely contagious. A bit later, I actually found out that she had known of my music for a while and even went to a couple of shows of mine in Vancouver so I definitely knew I wanted to collaborate with her.”
And Jepsen had this to say about working with Young:
“This song is pure, sweet summer. Big thanks to Adam for letting me sing on it. I hope it makes people smile. Abandon all plans and take an impromptu road trip!”
This mutual admiration and excitement to work together can be heard on ‘Good Time’, an undeniable anthem.
Fresh from appearing at this year’s Capital Summertime Ball (as a surprise guest with Justin Bieber), Carly will be supporting Bieber on tour which will see her play to massive crowds in Canada and North America. Her debut album featuring collaborations with Fun, Bieber and Redfoo (from LMFAO) is expected later this year.
