Gabby Young And Other Animals: Walk Away

Gabby Young And Other Animals release new single ‘Walk Away’ from their highly acclaimed second album, ‘The Band Called Out For More’, on October 1 2012.

‘Walk Away', Gabby’s first song written on piano, builds to a celebratory horn-infused climax: ‘I woke up one morning at 6am,’ she says, ‘and this came out, lyrics and all, in 5 minutes. It was something I really needed to say to my Dad.’ It’s very different from last single ‘In Your Head’ which allowed fans to connect with the upbeat party tempo of the first album ‘We’re Al l In This Together.’

And don’t miss the heart-wrenching new video, directed by Gabby’s partner and producer, Stephen Ellis. Filmed on location in the depths of Hampstead Heath, the video features Gabby’s actual father, Edward, alongside a captivating performance from Gabby. “I wanted to make a real and emotional video,” says Gabby. “This song is a message for my Dad and I am so pleased that he could be in it. I found the whole experience of shooting and now watching it back very moving.”

Written by Gabby and Stephen Ellis, the new album ‘The Band Called Out For More’ is a giant sonic step forward: its colourful avant-garde sound exudes the best bits of music hall, burlesque, 1920’s flapper music and torch songs. ‘My sound’s matured,’ she says. ‘I never say it’s different but I’ve honed my craft. I’m very happy and settled where I wasn’t before.’ It was released in June to mass press coverage – including features in Metro and The Independent and a page interview and four-star review in The Sun’s music section, with further four-star reviews in the likes of The Guardian, FT and Mirror. ‘In Your Head’ proved a favourite with Graham Norton and Paul O Grady amongst others at Radio 2. The band launched the album with a sell-out gig at London ’s Scala, which they decked out as a village festival.

Gabby’s first album ‘We’re all In This Together’ was released in 2010 receiving positive write-ups by many of the UK's major newspapers, including The Guardian, The Sunday Times and the London Evening Standard, with The Guardian even naming the band in their “Anti-tips for 2010: the acts who deserve to be heard.’

Clearly not a case of style over substance but, like many a front woman before her, Gabby loves to play dress up – and as her double page spread in Artrocker magazine, titled “How to dress like Gabby Young” will attest, there are plenty of women out there who find her charismatic looks as inspiring as her music. So much so, last year Gabby decided to launch Gabberdashery, devoted to promoting her favourite the artists, designers and craftspeople. “It’s a dream to be able to support and make opportunities for independent people making things I love,” says Gabby. “Everything we sell is something I would wear, use or hang on my wall and I want to introduce these beautiful items and amazing workmanship to as many people as possible.” For more information on Gabberdashery check out the brand new store here: link
