With her debut double A-side single ‘You Come Down’/’Mountain Spines’ due for release on September 3rd through Transgressive's single imprint ParadYse (Theme Park, Cold Specks), Marika Hackman has unveiled the beautifully bewitching video for ‘You Come Down’.
‘You Come Down’s haunting melody and ethereal vocal together with its folk backbone feels timeless, and Seth Finegold & Poppy Rogers’ video has captured all of these elements effortlessly. Filmed in an abandoned house in Dorset, the eerie setting complements the song's mystical nature.
Marika’s music channels something very different to the happy-clappy nature of recent folk. Hers is a far more potent vision in the lineage of Syd Barrett, but presented by an enigmatic beauty with a striking vocal delivery more akin to that of Nico deftly exploring an unsmiling bereft landscape:
“I don't know why I started writing; it's something I've been playing around with since I was so young that I can't remember how it began. I think living in the countryside for most of my life has affected my writing as nature usually manages to creep its way into my songs…”
Marika Hackman will be playing a sold-out single launch show on September 4th at the London Servant Jazz Quarters before accompanying Benjamin Francis Leftwich on his October tour. All dates are listed below.
