Starship Troopers: Invasion

Being a huge fan of the original 1997 film and an animator to boot, I jumped at the chance to review Starship Troopers: Invasion. I wish I hadn’t bothered.

The script is cheesy as hell and the animation is so cheap, it looks like a glorified video game. From the 90’s. In a year where it’s competing with animation like Tintin, I’m not sure why they bothered. I get that maybe you don’t have the money to back it, but then concentrate on story and script.

Instead they concentrated on a number of naked females in the shower shots. I can just imagine a group of sweaty animators leering over the CGI female fighter “phwoar, look at that, look at how big I made her jugs, phwoar look at the that arse, phwoar lets do a 360 degree shot of her body, phwoar!!” You get my drift. The females are all in a ridiculous outfits and hold the biggest guns, get it? Subtle it ain’t.

Annoying, stupid, dumb – just don’t bother. It’s lazy and really doesn’t deserve to be part of the Starship franchise. If there is an audience out there for this sort of fare, I really don’t want to know them.
