The PJP Band have had an enviable whirlwind year. On releasing their debut ‘American Lover’ EP in early 2011 they found themselves immediately invited to play that summer’s Glastonbury on the coveted BBC Introducing Stage. A performance heralded by 6 Music’s Tom Robinson as: “Astonishing for a 3 piece keyboard driven outfit, real grit and power, more power than most guitar bands”.
The PJP Band’s Glastonbury set in energy, conviction and sheer volume belied the band’s small three man ensemble. Their unique blend of grunge attitude, but imaginative, anthemic sub-pop sound wowed the packed crowd and resulted in The PJP Band spending a staggering near forty hours as the “most shared” act on BBC Glastonbury’s website homepage (beating Ed Sheeran and Wu Tung Clan).
This was shortly followed by an invitation to tour the UK with Hard-Fi in Autumn 2011, with frontman Richard Archer heading to The PJP Band’s Water Rats, London show to invite the band in person. The huge tour included a show at London’s famous Shepherd’s Bush Empire. At the same time, The PJP Band unleashed their second EP ‘Reasons To Move On’ – a live version of the title track already having been aired on Lauren Laverne’s 6 Music show via a live Glastonbury stream.
Earlier this year, The PJP Band went into the studio with respected rock producer Pete Miles (The King Blues, We Are The Ocean, Sonic Boom Six, Crazy Arm, Dry The River, Tellison etc.). When interviewed recently in Rocksound magazine, the producer said of the recording:
“Patrick’s vocals and lyrics are overwhelmingly uplifting and the sound that comes from just the three of them is so powerful, especially as there are no guitars for the majority of the record”. – Peter Miles, Producer
‘I Am A Racer’ is the first single to be taken from The PJP Band’s forthcoming debut and a perfect intro to their sound with its uplifting, life-affirming energy. The track has already received spins by Edith Bowman last month, after winning the public vote on the Radio 1 Review Show; (We Are The Ocean took in the track, fresh from The PJP Band’s album recording session). It has also received plays from firm-fan Tom Robinson on 6 Music.
‘I Am A Racer’ is released digitally via iTunes and also available on The PJP Band’s official website: link 29th October. The PJP Band’s debut album ‘And So It Goes’ is set for release in early 2013 and will be heading out on mini UK tour at the end of September. Full details below
