Light You Up – Broken Jaw EP

Light You Up are not the type of band to sit back and relax. Releasing their debut EP Broken Jaw, in the midst of writing their as of yet untitled debut album and preparing for their tour with A Loss For Words the five-piece are, without a doubt, very committed to their musical passion. Having built up a strong repertoire through their live performances, Light You Up are set to make an even better impression with this debut release which is the first to feature new vocalist Tom Napier.

Opening track “Foxfire” also taking place as the main single from Broken Jaw explores the realms of their melodic pop/punk rock sounds, with Napier’s unique, raw sounding vocal range complimenting the infectious melodies present. The crossover vocals in the final section of the track round it off to make “Foxfire” very worthy of being the main single on the EP. Leading into title track “Broken Jaw,” Light You Up continue to impress with the melodic riffs that seem so natural to them, with a chorus that invites you to interact with.

“Without You Here” welcomes energy fuelled riffs that would make this a definite crowd mover. Introducing crossover vocals again Light You Up adds substance to the track, an element that certainly suits their style. With final track “Lifebox” ending the EP on an acoustic note, the band bring in some mid paced drums at the start of the second chorus to build up the atmosphere. Napier’s raw yet softer vocal compliments the track, working with his full diverse range to increase the emotion and nicely rounding off the set of four tracks.

For a debut release, Broken Jaw is such a promising collection of tracks and with the untitled debut album in the line up Light You Up is set for an exciting year. Having already shared a stage with the likes of The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Less Than Jake, and with their tour with A Loss For Words, Save Your Breath & Decade soon approaching, Light You Up’s career will be fast accelerating and they certainly deserve it.
