Wired is the new single from Oxford indie/ rock trio The Scholars and it’s a good song that showcases the band’s talents well. The vocals are low and strong, the keyboard shimmers and the guitar work is intricate. Add in solid drumming and some lovely bass work and you begin to wonder if there are really more than three people in this band.
Wired rises and falls several times, with some lovely instrumental work coming between the verses. The chorus is big yet simple, the kind that sticks in your mind. From the opening distorted guitar chords through to the closing fall of notes this is a good synth rock song from a band who know what they are doing.
I’m looking forward to hearing more from these guys. They are clearly talented musicians and on the basis of this single have the knack of writing good solid songs.
It is also worth checking out the rather interesting video for the single, which was filmed by fans and friends of the band at the O2 Academy Oxford and Northaget Studios.
The song itself will be available to download from 8 October at [link] or via the band’s Facebook page at [link]
