Macy Gray Presents Talking Book Live

This autumn Grammy Award-winning artist Macy Gray brings something very special to KOKO, celebrating an inspirational – and timeless – classic with a unique live show.

Forty years ago Stevie Wonder released the outstanding ‘Talking Book’ album. A career-defining moment, it won awards and spawned seven Top 10 singles. Now Macy Gray releases her very own re-imagined version of this classic.

Macy Gray calls it “a love letter to Stevie Wonder” – and she’ll be performing it live at Camden’s heritage venue KOKO. Macy Gray returns to London this December with a very special performance in support of her latest album. Her stunning reinterpretation of Stevie Wonder’s ‘Talking Book’, released in time for the 40th anniversary of this timeless masterpiece, includes classic hits ‘Superstition’ and ‘You Are The Sunshine Of My Life’ among many others.

To accompany the new release Macy Gray will be performing ‘Talking Book’ in full at KOKO on December 20th. An all-out celebration of what Macy Gray cites as one of her most favourite records, the KOKO show will also feature some classics from her incomparable back-catalogue. Macy Gray said: “‘Talking Book’ is one of my top five favorite albums of all time, and Stevie Wonder is my favorite. This is my own personal birthday gift to Stevie, for all that I learned from him and for his miraculous songs that change my life everytime I hear them. This is not a tribute album or concert; it’s a love letter and a big thank you card on record and on stage.”

A gifted songwriter and dazzlingly singular singer, Macy Gray has been overturning fan expectation and industry formula since kicking off her music career with her debut 1999 album, ‘On How Life Is’. That musical calling card spawned the classic single ‘I Try’, a massive global hit. Macy Gray’s career ride includes two Grammys, two MTV awards, mor than 25 million units sold, and a thriving acting career.

Macy Gray has forged her own vision, creating music that leaps genre barriers from experimental soul to alternative rock, from retro-disco to hip-hop. Her artistic integrity and innovative approach has won her fans across the world, including artists such as John Frusciante, Erykah Badu, Outkast, Mos Def, Black Eyed Peas and Justin Timberlake, all of whom have collaborated with her.

On December 20th KOKO comes alive with Macy Gray’s ‘Talking Book’, a stunning re-imagining of one of the most recognisable albums of all time.
