Karen Ruimy – Come With Me

Karen Ruimy has now released a new video for the Paul Oakenfeld mix of ‘Come with Me’, which premiered on Attitude on Friday. The single is out on November 19th 2012.

‘Come With Me’, an intoxicating blend of Arabic and European influences, is an exciting introduction to this emerging singer / songwriter and her new album. ‘Come With Me’, the title track of the album, follows the hotly tipped 2012 underground summer dance anthem ‘Fragile’, which was a top 10 Upfront Club Chart and a favourite in Ibiza.

Produced by Youth (Beth Orton, The Verve, Paul McCartney) and co-written with Justin Adams (Robert Plant, Tinariwen, JuJu) Karen Ruimy’s album was recorded at Youth’s London house and at Real World studio.

Born in Morocco , raised in France and living in London , Karen is inspired by a broad sweep of musical influences. Having grown up with “Arabic music, flamenco, a little bit of rai, French singers like Michel Berger and Veronique Sanson” and latterly living in both America and London “how can you not be influenced by artistes such as Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel” Karen’s sound is heady, instinctive, sexy; deeply inflected by her Latin and North African influences but with a strong pop heart.

Working with Justin Adams was a revelation for Karen “Justin knows Moroccan music more than me – it’s very strange for me, how does he know? It really touched me, writing with him was magical.” Having written most of the album with Justin, Karen co-wrote two tracks with Martin Glover (aka Youth) which completed the album “creating these songs has given me so much pleasure”.

A fascinating woman, Karen left behind a successful career in banking to fulfill her creative and artistic dreams. Training as a flamenco dancer Karen created and performed in the dance show Sangré (which debuted at The Riverside Studios Summer 2012 and will be touring 2013). She is releasing her second book, The Voice Of An Angel, in October and has established a charity with Mariella Frostrup called the GREAT Initiative which promotes equality for women (Boodles have designed and created a special bracelet – The Great Boodles Bangle – which will be launched in November).
