The Bloogs – Freezing Rain
“Freezing Rain”, the next single from London based indie-pop band The Bloogs evokes The Police, The Pretenders and early 90’s sounds of The La’s, Cast and The Boo Radleys with sparkling guitars and harmonies tied to witty lyrics aimed to resonate with the people.
The Bloogs songwriting stems from 60’s guitar pop traditions; they are influenced by the likes of The Kinks, The Who and which means ultimately direct accessible hooky edgy pop-rock. “I guess the song is also about things we can all relate to – missing people, embracing changes, disorientation, surviving,” states songwriter, Chris Guard. “As for rain – I love it,” adds Guard in his deadpan tone. “I love the confidence of nature; it doesn’t flannel around, it just creates! Thunderstorms, high winds, it’s all OK by me.”
The band are a real unique mixed bag of talents coming together. Chris Guard has starred in Dr. Who, singer Ross Brown is an ex-builder and Royal Ballet dancer, guitarist / producer Stu Walton was the founder member of 80’s synth pop outfit Indians of Moscow, bassist Tom Burden turned down the Ministry of Defence to join the band and drummer Gustavo Aires Mateus ran naked through an enchanted cork forest to prove his undying commitment to The Bloogs.
The word ‘Bloogs’ comes from a Dr Seuss (Cat in the Hat) story called Oh, The Things You Can Think. They are flying creatures that look like a cross between fish and anenomes and perhaps sum up the band’s style as a fun loving quirky group of varied talents and influences coming together to form songs with wings.
With recent support slots for Toploader, appearances at Lively Bird Festival, Field of Dreams Festival, much regional radio support and airplay on BBC 3’s Late Junction and their track ‘Brain-Damaged Heart’ featured in new indie Brit movie ‘Scar Tissue’ also coming out in October 2012, things are shaping up in favour of The Bloogs.
