Plastique – A Paper Cut From A Paper Kiss

London based trio Plastique have confirmed they’ll be releasing their new single, ‘A Paper Cut From A Paper Kiss’ on January 14 2013.

An impressive slice of industrial electro-rock, complete with Shirley Manson-esque vocals, courtesy of front woman, Anelise, ‘A Paper Cut From a Paper Kiss’ is the second single taken from the band’s self-titled debut album ‘Plastique,’ released this summer.

“The song’s about the ageing process,” says Gabriel. “How women are frequently told they have a best before date. Plastique (the stage persona of frontwoman Anelise) is a fighter and she’s fighting to maintain her integrity as she reaches her 30s. Knowing that after everything, she will be ‘more than even’ – More even than what? That’s the beauty of ambiguity; you decide. The sentiment is more powerful.”

Cue an equally ambiguous video, a tale of deadly Burlesque girls, death and revenge – all served with a hint of steampunk.

Although London based, lead singer Anelise Kunz and musician Fabio Couto were both born and raised in Brazil, moving to London to follow their musical dreams in 2008. It was here they met with British producer, Gabriel Ralls, and after some late nights discussing a mutual love of the likes of Garbage, Deftones, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and David Bowie – Plastique was born – a fusion of rock, electro, pop and metal, which they call Power-Trip-Rock. “We’re about powerful music and texture,” says Gabriel. “But we’re not afraid to be catchy.”

Fabio, 32, already an accomplished musician took to guitar and bass, Gabriel, 29, an MA-qualified audio technician/producer to synths, drums and production, whilst Anelise, 30 was the natural choice for vocals. “We had no real expectations when we formed,” says Gabriel. “The pieces just fell into place and we spent the following 12 months recording the album. We’ve been moving forward ever since.”

And the name? “We wanted something that would relate to our sound, and could be accepted in both rock and electronic scenes. Plus we liked that Plastique has this sexy feminine sound, whilst also being a type of explosive.”

The band have spent the last year making a name for themselves on London’s live circuit, performing across the capital at venues like the Dublin Castle, Waterrats, The Enterprise, Nambucca, Rattlesnake and 229, with lots more planned for the New Year.

The self-titled debut album is out now, available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Deezer and Bandcamp. And don’t miss the lo-fi video for previous single, ‘Butterflies’ filmed in the Old Vic Tunnels underneath Waterloo station
