Following on from the an Evening with Kevin Smith releases, the duo here take to the UK stages in three locations and basically sit at a table in front of a mass audience and, well, talk about their dicks.
It’s a very familiar routine, and almost a mundane one for anyone who listens to the various podcasts that Smith broadcast on a weekly basis. While there is plenty of humour from a very animated Jason Mewes (who does more than his fair share of talking and revealing), Smith is almost on autopilot regurgitating the same jokes he has done on at least several other occasions through several other media.
And that is the biggest criticism we can level at the man. Smith has become the Stand-up Comic who has made the mistake of telling the same jokes far too often and is in need of some new material. He has far too many safe go-to jokes that refer him either back to his weight or his films.
There are a few moments where they use animation to spruce up the dialogue between the two, but by and large it is literally them talking about sex and experiences. The final 15 minutes of each performance sees them extend the “joy” to the attending crowd by inviting a few members up on stage to enact bizarre sexual positions with Jason mewes (something we wouldn’t want anyone to waste their 15 minutes of fame on in this life, but it seems there are always game members of the audience).
If Smith’s tired brand of humour is your bag then this is an easy buy. But if you prefer him being a little more original, or even expect the early days of the very good “Evening with” days then this one is best given a miss.
