One of the country’s leading music broadcasters, Mary Anne Hobbs, joins BBC Radio 6 Music as the presenter of the all new Weekend Breakfast Show on Saturdays and Sundays 7:00-10:00am from 5th January 2013.
Presented live from BBC Radio 6 Music’s Salford studios, Mary Anne will launch the weekend with a lively, upbeat show – packed with the music she loves, and plenty of audience interaction.
Mary Anne’s Weekend Breakfast show will act as a gateway to the network, showcasing the best of 6 Music’s output across the week, alongside top-flight guests, archive sessions, and chat about all the latest books, films, arts and entertainment.
“For me: Music Is Life. I’m so excited to join a family with such depth and diversity of knowledge, pure passion and ingenuity. I look forward so much to the new challenge of creating a beautiful Weekend Breakfast Show which embodies the whole spirit of 6 Music, and allows me to explore some fascinating new radio terrain,” said Mary Anne Hobbs.
Mary Anne was part of BBC Radio 1 for 14 years before a more recent tenure at Xfm, where she was nominated for Best Specialist Show at the Sony and Arqiva Awards 2012.
As well as her radio presenting roles, Mary Anne also worked on sound design for Darren Aronofsky and Clint Mansell on their Oscar winning film Black Swan, and the soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy. She has toured the world for the last seven years as one of the most respected female DJs in her field, playing to her biggest crowd of 15,000 people at Sonar festival in Barcelona, one of the many international festivals which she also curates.
Head of Programmes, James Stirling added: “I’m thrilled that Mary Anne will make her return to the BBC on 6 Music. Her knowledge and love of alternative music is legendary, as is her dedication to sharing it with others. Weekend Breakfast is a great place to showcase her special qualities as a music broadcaster and she will be a very welcome addition to our team.”
