Ones To Watch 2013 – The Banter Thiefs

The Banter Thiefs are another young indie band who play energetic and highly entertaining live sets. Coming from Motherwell in Lanarkshire there is an urban edge to their fine songwriting and their reputation as an up and coming band with a big future means they thoroughly deserve a place in this feature.

The Banter Thiefs are David Clark, Derek Watson, Keith Condie and Darren O’Rourke.

Just in case anyone doesn’t know you, how would you describe yourselves and your music?

We are a band who has grown up together in Motherwell and that is usually recognisable in our lyrics. We play tropical indie rock, not that there’s much tropical about living in Lanarkshire.

Have you released any albums or singles so far?

In 2011 we released our self-titled EP and in 2012 we released the single All Your Life, with a great video.

What’s been the highlight of your career to date?

We have played many shows throughout Scotland and the UK but recently we supported Dundee rockers, The View, which was nice as we are big fans of their music. It’s always nice to play shows in London and a favourite venue in Scotland would most likely be King Tuts.

Who are your main musical influences?

All band members have different tastes in music but some bands where we all agree would be The Libertines and Blink 182.

What lessons about the music business have you had to learn so far?

If you don’t have skinny jeans, rubbish shoes and a shite overexaggerated accent people don’t usually want to know you

Where can we find out more about you – website, social media, etc?

And what do you hope that 2013 will bring for you?

We are hoping 2013 will be an exciting year for us. We have another video / single release planned for February and we will tour around then, hopefully push on and do some of the Summer festivals
