Residing in Germany’s Mecca of techno music, Vimes have a unique sound that seamlessly combines live instruments with uplifting, digital pop elements, fragile yet vivid vocals, and a stirring visual live set. The Guardian recently mentioned them as one of the most influential groups on modern music in Germany.
Their debut single ‘UpStairs’ was released through Humming Records (Cloud Control, Yes Cadets) in late 2012. Vimes are currently working on their debut album with producer Jochen Naaf (Emeli Sandé, Lady Gaga)
Following several European headline shows and an invitation to join Hot Chip in Mexico, they are ready to pack their bags again, having already confirmed appearances at showcase festivals Canadian Music Week, Eurosonic Noorderslag as well as further shows in the U.S., Canada, South America and Europe soon to be announced.
Hot Chip aren’t their only high profile fans – Grammy nominated musician and producer Chilly Gonzales (Feist, Peaches) praised Vimes and their debut track after a joint studio session: “Great voice!…The overall aesthetic, the darkness combined with the beats – I think it’s very appealing. A lot of potential. I’m a Vimes fan!”
VIMES are Azhar Syed (Vocals, Guitar, Bass), Julian Stetter (Electronics, Guitar), and Till Beutling (Visuals). Born in Nigeria to an Indian couple of humanitarian workers and raised all across Europe, Azhar went on to study visual arts in Germany where he met striking music student Julian whilst writing for respected national music magazine ‘Intro’. Accompanied by a live drummer and visuals artist, this set-up has existing for little over a year.
