One of our favourite independent music retailers Banquet Records have spotted a golden opportunity to bring some good news to the music world following the HMV fiasco this week and are offering all HMV gift card and voucher holders 50% off at their store in Kingston, Surrey.
Shoppers will be able to exchange their gift cards for a 50% discount at Banquet Records permitted they are exchanged as part of one single transaction. This follows news from HMV that they will no longer be accepting gift cards or vouchers in their stores, causing widespread accusations of mis-selling by the chain.
Owner Jon Tolley issued a statement on the Banquet Records website today, explaining that valid vouchers and gift cards would be recognised with immediate effect.
“The news of HMV going into administration has been the talk of everyone – especially so if you work at a record shop. We’re very aware and sad that people are looking at losing their jobs, and we’re concerned about the effect HMV’s possible closure may have on physical releases in general.
However, one gripe many have is the current situation where gift cards are now no longer valid at HMV. Whatever happened, it’s certainly no fault of the person who got someone a Christmas gift, and it’s unfair on someone to not be able to use their credit.
We wanted to find a way to make these gift tokens valid at our store. So this is the idea we could come up with. We’ll offer anyone with a valid HMV gift card 50% off in our store up to and including Sunday 20th January.”
