Teen Star Auditions Come To Glasgow This Weekend

Singing auditions for teenagers and pre-teens are coming to Glasgow this weekend with acts having the chance to get on the road to The O2! TeenStar will be searching for Britain’s best singers, singer-songwriters, rappers and vocalists when auditions come to The City Halls in Glasgow on Saturday 9th February.

TeenStar is the UK’s largest national music competition for singers and solo artists for teenagers and pre-teens. Brought to you by Future Music who already produce the successful Open Mic UK competition bringing us such acts as Birdy, Lucy Spraggan, Jahmene Douglas and Hatty Keane. TeenStar is anticipated to attract over 8,000 entrants in its first year, with auditions taking place across the UK!

The competition will travel across the country searching for the next big teenage star. It’s open to all genres, so whether you’re into RnB, Rap, Acoustic, Pop or Classical – TeenStar has it all! Acts can perform either covers or original material and they’ll be invited to a live audition in front of a small judging panel.

Previous Open Mic UK winner Birdy’s debut album has been a massive hit across Europe achieving number one status in both Holland and Belgium and hitting the Top 20 in the UK, and she has very recently hit the number one spot in France with her stunning rendition of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’.

Birdy recently reminisced about the experience of playing in front of a thousand people at the Open Mic UK Grand Final as “such a cool experience” to Radio One. She explained that it showed her what she wanted to do when she was still very young.

Chris Grayston, MD of Open Mic UK and TeenStar says, “Birdy has been a great example of the springboard our competitions offers. The new singing competition TeenStar is about to start and we’re looking for someone with similar talent, who can be a global success. If you are 19 years old or younger and you’ve got the talent then why not audition in Glasgow this weekend.”

Acts that get through their audition will then take to the stage in a Regional Final in front of a packed out audience and an industry judging panel. Judges for previous Future Music competitions have included Radio One DJ’s Annie Nightingale and Ras Kwame, Another Level star Dane Bowers and former MOBO award winning RnB sensation Shola Ama.

TeenStar is split into three age categories; pre-teens, 13-15’s and 16 and over. It means there will be three eventual category winners, with the overall winner getting £5,000 to spend on their music. There are prizes along the way to The O2 as well with studio time and singing lessons awarded at every TeenStar event this year!

Another success story of Open Mic UK’s is rising star Hatty Keane. Since winning her age category of Open Mic UK, Hatty has been signed to BGM and has supported big names such as Ed Sheeran, Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder, Pitbull and Zane Lowe! She is currently working towards the release of her debut album. Other names such as Lucy Spraggan and Jahmene Douglas have also come through Future Music competitions.

The question on everyone’s lips is who will follow in Birdy and Hatty Keane’s footsteps in this year’s new TeenStar competition? If you fancy your chances of being the first TeenStar winner then come along to Glasgow this weekend and audition. Auditions begin at 2pm but please check the website for a guide on specific times for your age category. Who knows, in less than six months you could be playing at The O2 in London!
