Here at Glasswerk we’re big fans of Nicolas Cage. Be it his superb rendition of being stung to death by bees in The Wickerman, his slow descent into madness in Vampire’s Kiss, or his diabolically tongue in cheek depiction of a wrongly convicted criminal in Con Air.
The Academy Award-winner returns in his latest movie Stolen – a fast paced thrill ride taking place across an action packed 10 hours on Mardi Gras day in New Orleans. Reigniting a working partnership with director Simon West, who worked with Cage on his almost career defining 1997 blockbuster Con Air, the film also stars Josh Lucas, Danny Huston, Malin Akerman, Sami Gayle, Mark Valley and M.C. Gainey.
Cage plays Will Montgomery, a master thief who has been sent to prison for 8 years after being double-crossed in a heist gone awry. Now free and ready to rebuild his relationship with his estranged daughter, Cage fans should be able to see where this is all going to fall apart – we’re already getting some heady recollections of the joy we experienced the first time we saw The Rock and Face Off.
Recalling why he jumped at the offer to play Will Montgomery, Cage says “I would say yes to Simon West on almost anything because I feel he is one of the best directors I’ve ever worked with, and I had a great experience working with him on Con Air.” He asserts, “He’s a gentleman and he’s an artist and he knows what he wants. He’s supremely confident, he comes in and he sculpts, and then you have a new way of looking at the scene.”
