Scholars – Black and Blue (unplugged version)

Capturing the dark and moody themes in their new single ‘Black and Blue’ with a new stripped down version, Scholars have released a video of their re-working of the track. It’s certainly a different take on their usually effervescent sound and it incorporates some unexpected instrumentation. Scholars’ debut album ‘Always Lead, Never Follow’ will be released through Banquet Records on 8th April. ‘Black and Blue’ is out the week before and the band will be touring the country throughout March and April.

Razor tight and bursting with energy, Scholars’ live show has that ability to win people over, no matter who they’re playing to. For Sam, that was tested when they hit the road with Canterbury and Mallory Knox at the tail end of 2012. “I expected us to go out there to a lot of raised eyebrows, but people really took to us,” he confesses. “I think it’s engaging the crowd and getting involved with them; we make an impact on people by being a very expressive live band.”

‘Always Lead, Never Follow’ captures all of that expression and more. Recorded under the guidance of ex-Hundred Reasons man Larry Hibbitt between Brixton and Melton Mowbray in the first half of 2012.
