This lovely break up song is Sam Sallon’s follow up to his fine cover of the classic Paul Simon penned Cathy’s Song. The single You May Not Mean To Hurt Me (But You Do) was penned by the Manchester acoustic singer songwriter, and shows that he has lyrical talent as well as great vocal ability. The track will feature on Sallon’s debut album, One For Tbe Road, which is due for release in May 2013.
Starting slowly, Sallon’s fine voice backed by some lovely acoustic guitar, the song builds towards a multi-layered chorus. A lovely string arrangement augments the lead vocal and Sallon has no trouble making himself heard through the mix. There is a sensitivity to the performance: regret rather than anger is the primary emotion here and it is well portrayed.
Sam Sallon is clearly a talented young performer. With a melodic and warm voice he is engaging, whether singing his own songs or covers. His debut album should be well worth waiting for.
