This time it seems that it is scientists vs. the military as we make a few more discoveries about the dead and ourselves as everyone threatens to tear civilisation down to its most bass, and the dead threaten to tear everything else limb from limb.
Day of the dead is not lacking in its imagination when it comes to torso’s being torn apart, gung-ho zombies learning to love their masters, a wall of zombie arms piercing through walls to attack their heart pounding prey, and sadistic military men toying with the balance of control.
This 3 disc edition from Arrow was released some time ago now, but is still available – and if you haven’t picked it up and you are even remotely a fan of the series then we can only recommend you do so soon. The film itself looks great on Blu-ray. The sound has 5.1 surround and 3.1 stereo options.
The supplemental materials are what really make this set. Highlights including a commentary from Greg Nicotero, Howard Berger, Everett Burrell and Mike Deak (but where is the one with Romero?), and a very decent making of The many Days of the Dead which documents the film as it is and also what it could have been.
There is also a large collection of galleries and trailers as well. There is also the reversal sleeves with the box and Calum Waddell provides the writing for a collector’s booklet.
The film may be the weaker element of the original three films, but it is one that has matured over time and is still stronger than most of what we get offered today. And when it comes packed with these extras you can’t help but get excited. This is a highlight among the Arrow Blu-ray releases.
