Falling Off Maps - Honest
Single Review

Falling Off Maps – Honest

Honest, the debut single from Nottingham five piece Falling Off Maps will be released on 12 August through Square Peg Round Hole Recordings. It is taken from the forthcoming debut album A Seaside Town In Winter, a title that conjures up some rather bleak images.

Honest is a slow and haunting track. Dave Wright’s high and almost whispered vocals seem to float over a restrained backing of strings and acoustic guitar, with some lovely backing vocals creating an atmospheric effect. A nice bass line gives depth to the sound, acting as a counterpoint to the vocal. It’s a love song that speaks of longing and desperate need: “If I could be yours, I could be honest.”

This is a decent song, and it acts as a good taster for the album to come. Falling Off Maps have a carefully constructed sound that is nuanced and laid out to a particular plan. A Seaside Town In Winter is one to look forward to.

Venue: Honest
Support Band: Square Peg Round Hole Recordings.
