Back in 1982, two great horror icons of the time collaborated to bring one of the era’s most iconic films to the genre, Creepshow. Written by the legend Stephen King and directed by the zombie master himself George A. Romero, Creepshow is a comic book styled feature bringing the viewer five tales of the strange and macabre, brought to grizzly life in true 80’s latex fashion by the magical hands of Tom Savini.
This ghoulish piece of cinema history sports an all-star cast including Ted Danson of Cheers and 3 men and a baby fame. Naked guns very own Leslie Nielsen. Ed Harris, who starred in another Romero classic, Knightriders makes an appearance. Even Stephen King himself turns his hand to acting for one of the creepy tales.
Each tale encapsulates everything that the 80’s made great about the horror genre with tales of zombies coming back from the grave, Sci-Fi vegetation, vengeful husbands and their cheating wives. More Zombies, Creepy crate creatures and insects! Lots of Insects!
All of this has been restored in glorious HD and brought to you for the first time ever on Blu Ray by Second Sight.
The picture quality is a good as can be expected for a film from this era and a little grain and flicker can be forgiven, as most you will hopefully agree that has always been some of the appeal for the older horror movie. Clean the film up too much and you can clearly see the latex and corn syrup and it loses some of its rawness and magic.
Second Sight has also added a huge bundle of extras, including a feature length documentary on the making of Creepshow which is a must for any fan. Two audio commentaries, one being from George A. Romero and Tom Savini and the second from other members of the crew giving insights into the making of the movie.
Tom Savini also hosts a segment called behind the screams, showing the hard work and genius that brings these characters to life on the big screen.
Add to these deleted scenes, TV spots, trailer and a stills gallery and you have the ultimate release of this 80’s classic.
All in all this is a great value release from Second Sight Films and a must have for any fan of the film or any 80’s horror fanatic. What better way to spend your Halloween this year than in the hands of these horror gurus!
Creepshow is released on October 28th
