Introducing Hannah Trigwell

Hannah Trigwell is a singer-songwriter who began her career at 17 busking around her hometown of Leeds in the north of England. From there she learnt her craft, while going on to study at The University of Leeds, recently graduating with a degree in Biology. During this time, Hannah posted a few cover versions she had re-worked on YouTube and within an instant she was being touted as a new sensation. She was named ‘Best International Unsigned Act’ at the St. Helier Online Music Awards and her version of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ quickly amassed more than two million views. Hannah got a manager and started receiving high praise tweets from the likes of Louis Tomlinson of 1D, “what a great voice!”

Hannah continued to pick up new fans around the world, releasing two EPs of original material which both reached the top 10 of iTunes singer/songwriter charts. By now her videos had been viewed more than 15 million times; Ed Sheeran, Johnny Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls) and The Script all started supporting her on Twitter and then Florida based Boyce Avenue, one of the most successful YouTube era bands in the world, asked to collaborate on a couple of tracks with Hannah and go on a UK tour in 2012.

After a series of amazing sellout shows the Boyce Avenue guys asked Hannah if she’d like to sign to their label 3 Peace Records, having departed from their Universal label deal in order to revert back to the DIY spirit of YouTube.

Hannah went for it, “It’s quite a funny story, I used to watch YouTube videos of Boyce Avenue and I was following them for a few years and then I thought – I’m going to give this a go. They helped give me the confidence to post my videos on there in the first place.” Now signed to their label and forging a close friendship with the American stars she explains, “Having your label also run by musicians helps, I’m self-taught and it’s helped me learn a lot about technique with guitar playing and composition. It’s about creating great music rather than just selling music, which is really good for me because it’s what I wanted to do.”

The decision to focus on her music full-time rather than explore her future in Biology will be welcome news to her fans, and when they hear the new music Hannah has been working on it may be more than a few million YouTube fans that are rushing to see her live. First single to be released in 2014 is called ‘Hurricane’ and is a departure from the more acoustic based sound Hannah is known for as she ramps up the tempo into the finer side of pop nuanced with the indie attitude of acts like The XX. Essentially Hannah Trigwell could sing the phone book and make it sound dreamy. This is what US presenter Ryan Seacrest believed giving her a coveted ‘Artist of the Week’ slot in November on RyanSeacrest.com, where he presented the exclusive Hannah Trigwell ‘Live & Acoustic from Steelworks Studio.’ EP Live Sessions.

With a debut headline UK tour in January 2014 and debut single ‘Hurricane’ out on 3 Peace Records in February, the future looks bright for this once street-busker from Leeds.
