Here’s a little late night number to put some hazy jazz in your pipe and lower those eyelides before bedtime, the new one from Get The Blessing.
‘Corniche’ is taken from Lope & Antilope, the band’s fourth album (second for label Naim Jazz) out on Monday 20th January.
Bassist Jim Barr once remarked that Get The Blessing were “total outsiders” and “the punk entry” when they won the 2008 BBC Jazz Award for Best Album with ‘All Is Yes’ – the same still rings true for this avantgarde outfit.
For the uninitiated, the line up includes Portishead rhythm masters Jim Barr and Clive Deamer on bass and drums respectively, Pete Judge on trumpet and Jake McMurchie on saxophone. The band’s old friend and collaborator – and Portishead guitarist – Adrian Utley also returns to make a guest appearance with Bat for Lashes guitarist Tim Allen brought in to engineer the recording sessions.
You can catch the band at the Liverpool Jazz Festival and on various tour dates throughot March.
