The time has finally come – Cheshire four piece Blitz Kids have released their first album ‘The Good Youth’, since signing to Red Bull Records last year. This one is fun, thoughtful and in a positive way more developed.
The delay in the release of this album is certainly worth it. Not knocking their previous work, but this one is incomparable in terms of maturity and hitting the spot. With opening gang vocals and ‘All I Want Is Everything’ being such a banger, it is clear that there has been a positive change in direction for the band. One that with the flamboyance and anthemic choruses of this new album makes it the most exciting release for Blitz Kids yet. In fact, possibly of all releases of 2014 so far.
Their rock sound is one that should be one for the radio, and with the current stream of airplay, including Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch and Radio 1, it seems that the technical, tight new sound is set to make Jono, Joe, Nic and Matt the poster boys for the genre.
Blitz Kids set the bar high with the singles, ‘On My Own’, ‘Sometimes’ and ‘Run For Cover’, and even the slow songs are ones for arenas. With catchy riffs, impressive vocals and blustering new sounds. Not new to the world of music, but something that seems slightly outside their boundaries. ‘Keep Swinging’ is a personal highlight and the rawness from this and the album throughout is something that will make you want to sing it out loud and tell all your friends about.
This epic release isn’t 100% perfect, but then everything has flaws, even the surprise Beyonce album, but they have changed their ways and created the perfect ‘Sound of a Lost Generation’. With heavier tracks as well as the more pop-y sound they have created a well flowing pick’n’mix album to feed your rock hunger.
It doesn’t need more than one listen to become attached, in fact, it’s one of those that can be listened to over and over and not lose touch.
