Sam Callahan From Open Mic Follows Birdy

From Open Mic UK, Sam Callahan, the lovable 19 year-old singer, has burst onto the music scene with his appearance in the 10th series of The X-Factor. However, it’s not the first time that Sam Callahan has entered a singing competition, as he initially auditioned for the singing competition Open Mic UK in Brighton, the year that Birdy was crowned in first place.

Future Music competitions continue to prove they are a petri dish of talent, as Open Mic UK’s Sam Callahan looks set to join the illustrious list of success stories that have emerged from the Open Mic UK singing competition.

Despite leaving The X Factor in Week 6 after ironically being knocked out in a sing-off with his friend and TeenStar singing competition winner Luke Friend, Open Mic UK alumni Sam Callahan certainly has bounced back. He claims that he has “this positive attitude which helped me a long way in the competition”, and he is now performing around the UK on The X-Factor tour.

Sam Callahan has had a tough draw with other competitors. Sam was in the same Open Mic UK singing competition as rising star and future household name, Birdy. Since her Open Mic UK win, Birdy has flown to fame and 2013 saw her release her second album, ‘Fire Within’. Now, 2014 sees Sam Callahan spread his wings and follow in Birdy’s footsteps, declaring that he hopes to release his own debut album this year.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Sam Callahan. One thing is certain though – the successes that are emerging from Open Mic UK and TeenStar continue to flourish. Sam Callahan is now a part of an elite group of young talented individuals that include Lucy Spraggan, Birdy, Luke Friend, Jahmene Douglas and Jaymi Hensley from Union J.

Auditioning for Open Mic UK no doubt gave Sam Callahan invaluable experience for competing on The X-Factor, where he needed all the courage he could get to face the judging panel. Sam said: “I didn’t let [the criticism] get to me for more than ten minutes at a time. I’m a positive person, I literally turn it around and think right, come back fighting next week if I get through. I’m one of those speedballs, punch it and it comes back quicker”.

With over 250,000 followers on Twitter and 150,000 Facebook ‘Callafans’ can justify that Open Mic UK competitor Callahan really can – and we’ll be following him every step of the way.
