Stream New Track From De Lux

‘Make Space’ is the lead single from ‘Voyage’, the debut album by post-disco dance-punk L.A. duo De Lux – multi-instrumentalists Sean Guerin and Isaac Franco. It will be released on the new LA label Innovative Leisure, home to Classixx, Nosaj Thing, Hanni El Khatib and Rhye.

‘Voyage’ closely follows their five-track debut EP, released as a free download in November 2013 in collaboration with Scion AV. The De Lux EP led Huffington Post to declare, “De Lux makes it possible to dance, think, dance, wonder, and dance some more”.

On ‘Voyage’ De Lux roar through Psychedelic Furs-style pop (‘Love Is A Phase’), shout and whisper like James Murphy at his most frantic (‘Make Space’), sink into Eno-esque moments of bliss (‘On The Day’), and rocket through the agit-funk party track ‘Sometimes Your Friends Are Not Your Friends’.

The duo have been recording songs separately since they were 15. Sean spent years writing his own material, while Isaac’s tastes were shaped by a strict diet of disco and boogie. They became friends some time between learning how best to fall off a skateboard and finishing high school.

Even though they hadn’t always played together, Isaac and Sean have always been after the same thing in music – the groove. You can hear the exact moment De Lux was conceived in ‘Better At Making Time’. At the time, Isaac and Sean were playing with other bands, but as they were getting ready for a rehearsal, Isaac spontaneously came up with the bassline that eventually evolved into the song.

The whole of ‘Voyage’ bears out that song’s of-the-moment energy. You’re hearing this album on the first take – De Lux never re-record. If they don’t perfectly catch the groove as it happens, they let it go. That’s probably why Voyage sounds so alive.
