Metal fans will have noticed that Sonisphere is making its way back after a two year hiatus.
Back in 2012 the festival was just about all set to roll – even with Faith No More headlining the weekend as part of their return to the live stage. Kiss and Queen were also set to headline – with an almost complete list of acts set to perform throughout the three day weekend.
But then one day came the news that the festival had been cancelled. Difficulties in organising the festival to a high standard the organisers decided were not being met so the UK set up was struck out. 2013 didn’t even get as far as announcing acts. Sonisphere UK was not going to run in 2013 either. Local fans sobbed whilst territories throughout Europe continued to host Sonisphere events.
This was particularly sad as the first three years (2009 – 2011) had been so successful. The festival grew in stature, reputation and even in capacity throughout these three years and was a clear competitor for the likes of Download. Over this time main headline bands had included Metallica in 2009, Rammstein and Iron Maiden in 2010 and The Big Four, and Slipknot in 2011.
Other acts to have appeared include big names such as Alice Cooper, Nine Inch Nails, Iggy and the Stooges, Gary Numan, Motley Crue, Europe, The Cult, Therapy to name but a few.
There is also a lot of loyalty as acts that have returned time and again including Alice in Chains, Slayer, Airbourne, Gallows, Limp Bizkit, Anthrax, Killing Joke, Corey Taylor and Sylosis. Plenty of these bands are set to return for 2014.
With Iron Maiden and Metallica headlining again (a third for Metallica) Sonisphere is back on track.
We shall keep up to date with the line up for 2014 as it come. You can also get more information regarding the festival – including ticket information here:
