Incubus Singer Brandon Boyd Announces Sons of the Sea Sideproject Album

Brandon Boyd has announced details of the debut album from his new project ‘Sons of the Sea’ – which basically just him and producer Brendan O’Brien (the knob twiddler for Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam and Incubus themselves).

Fans of any of the above might be surprised though – this new venture is more Beach Boys meets Stevie Wonder and Abba by way of Queen than anything else. That’s not to say it’s bad, in fact, it’s incredible. Boyd has coined the new project “oddball pop” and it’s easy to see – his trademark pipes are still there but O’Brien has brought a whole new wave of proggy pop sensibilities to the mix.

Boyd and O’Brien first joined forces when Incubus went on hiatus following the release of 2011’s ‘If Not Now, When?’.

After much toiling and overthinking about how I was to go about starting a new music project, I decided that the best way forward was to let go completely!” Boyd enthuses. “Stop thinking about where, when, what, who and how, and simply…GO!

The album ‘Sons Of The Sea’ will be released in the UK on 3rd March 2014 by Membran/Avow!, with the first single, ‘Come Together’ following on 24th.
