On Saturday 22nd February, Soundcrash team up with independent label Tru Thoughts once again – after two previous sell-out label showcases – to bring you one of the biggest line-ups of the year at KOKO. This is the first in a series of celebrations around the world to mark Tru Thoughts’ 15th Birthday year. Showcasing the crème de la crème of talented artists that the label has to offer, performances will come from recent signings such as Harleighblu and Ty through to long standing legends Alice Russell and Nostalgia 77.
With a quality selection of crossover live bands and DJs, expect the classic right through to the cutting edge, from soul and funk to electronic and reggae flavours with a healthy dose of hip hop thrown in. Across sets from the likes of soul queen Alice Russell, Wrongtom vs Ragga Twins (with a full live band!), UK hip hop legend Rodney P, Harleighblu, Ty, Anchorsong, Nostalgia 77, Werkha, Titeknots, and label boss Robert Luis on the decks, it’s safe to say that standing still won’t be an option.
Brighton based Tru Thoughts began in 1999 when Robert Luis and Paul Jonas joined forces to create a platform for the exciting new music that was coming through their club nights at the time, quickly growing into one of the UK’s most respected independent labels. Their open-minded and eclectic taste has resulted in a wide ranging roster, from uniquely talented singers to nine-piece American brass bands and underground UK hip hop acts to globetrotting and innovative dance music producers. Diversity is backed up by consistency, enabling Tru Thoughts to be seen by many as the perfect record label. Up-and-coming acts including Werkha and Harleighblu are the next generation of Tru Thoughts artists breaking through, proving that A&R man Luis has not lost his finely tuned ear for discovering and nurturing new talent.
