Introducing Raglans

Irish indie-folk four-piece Raglans have confirmed their new single ‘Lady Roll Back The Years’ will be released on February 24th, through Independent Records LTD.

Taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut album, out March 24, ‘Lady Roll Back The Years’ showcases a raw jumpy style, akin to The Libertines circa ‘Up The Bracket’. Combining lackadaisical acoustics and hazed out riffs, it’s a great example of the band’s gritty indie/folk sound, found throughout their debut.

“It’s about an eighteen year old receiving an invitation to a hotel room, from a forty-something woman with dastardly intentions,” smiles lead singer Stephen Kelly. “I won’t say who, but she left an impression…”

And don’t miss the new video, shot on location around the canals of East London, and at London’s iconic Old Blue Last. “Our previous few videos have been quite tongue in cheek and have been more concept based. This one is certainly more direct with a traditional rock’n’roll feel.” The video is the latest from the band’s long time video collaborator, Finn Keenan, a talented young filmmaker who has made all of the band’s previous videos including the much watched ‘Digging Holes’ and ‘The Man From Glasgow’, amassing over 300, 000 total YouTube views.

The band’s debut album, ‘Raglans’, encompasses the grouped vocals of The Lumineers, as well as the multi-instrumentalist efforts of Of Monsters And Men. “It’s folk, it’s indie, it’s revivalist blues,” says Stephen, who cites Bob Dylan and The Beatles as key songwriting influences. “We definitely aimed to give it that traditional melody, but the upbeat tempo and power behind the track give it that modernised feel”.

Raglans are now preparing to promote the album alongside fellow bluesy wunderkinds The Strypes, supporting their Irish counterparts on a huge nationwide tour of the UK, playing venues such as Shepherd’s Bush Empire (NME Awards Tour) and Brighton’s Concorde 2. “We’ve been friends for some time now, playing gigs with them. Even when they were playing at twelve years old we could already tell the guys were going to be big. We’re very excited to back playing with them.”

‘Lady Roll Back the Years’ is out February 24th. The debut album, ‘RAGLANS’ is out March 24.
