Rosenthal builds on the success of his well received debut with the release of his second single ‘Lashes’ on April 28 on Afterimages, a breathtakingly exuberant slice of dark alt-pop produced atCopenhagen’s Safelandings Studio with Ole Gundahl Sorensen once again at the helm.
‘Lashes’ takes the same distinctive sonic hallmarks of its slow motion predecessor and moves them into faster, more upbeat territory. Jeppe’s vocals, favourably compared by some to Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig, convey the agonies of unfettered but unrequited passion with engagingly open-hearted honesty. Beneath them fragments of luxurious synths swirl like rain in a winter storm, offset by reverb- heavy bass notes, meshing euphoria and melancholy in a way that echoes Jeppe’s key influences of New Order, Cocteau Twins and The Cure.
The brainchild of Copenhagen-based songwriter and producer Jeppe Kiel Revsbech, the Rosenthalproject made big waves with his reflective and serene first track ‘Afraid of Stairs’, winning Amazing Radio’s Audition Show public vote, gaining multiple plays on the station alongside enthusiastic support from Artrocker, Subba Cultcha and God Is In The TV, among other online zines.
Set to become a highlight of his forthcoming full band live shows due to reach the UK this spring, ‘Lashes’ will further cement Rosenthal’s reputation as one of 2014’s most promising, individual and distinctive newcomers.
