The N-A-I-V-E-S- Q&A

N-A-I-V-E-S are an interesting new band with a great name and a fresh sound. Although they have only been together for a year or so they have already played with some big names and released their debut single W.I.G.O. (When I Grow Old) on 17th March. We caught up with lead singer Marc Jacc and he told us a bit about the group.

You’re described as a London based Anglo/ French trio. How did you come to form a band together?

(Marc-singer) I met Lapo (bass) 2 years ago backstage at the “Bus Palladium” in Paris, where I used to live. He came from London to play a gig with a previous band he had.
A few months later I moved to London and we started to jam around tribal beats and record some material onto Ableton live. A couple of months after we met Jamie (drummer) at a gig we played at the Nest in East London. From there started rehearsing the tracks we have been working on together.

So where did the name N-A-I-V-E-S come from?

We were inspired by a naive French painter called Henri Rousseau. His paintings are as hypnotic and tropical as our music. I guess that’s where the name comes from.

And how would you describe your musical style?

Colorful-Electro-tropical indie pop

We featured your debut single W.I.G.O. (When I Grow Old) on Glasswerk. Tell us a bit about it.

W*I*G*O is about that moment of the adolescence when you first realise your potentials to achieve your goals.

The video for W.I.G.O (above) is great – and very colourful. What’s the story behind it?

We wanted to have a strong spontaneous image about the song and above all about the band itself. In the video you can recognise all the colourful and tropical typical elements there are in our music.

You are currently playing all over Europe. When will we see you in the UK?

We’ll be in London as the Shackelewell Arms with Reptile Youth April 4th. More TBA for the summer. In the mean time we’re all excited to hit the road for the European tour, which started in Barcelona the other week!

And what are your future plans as a band?

We’re planning to release and EP and our debut album later on this year. Stay tuned!!!
