Andrew WK To Host Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2014
Kerrang! Magazine, the UK’s biggest-selling music weekly, has today announced that this year’s Relentless Kerrang! Awards will be co-hosted by raucous party legend Andrew W.K – along with Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. Taking over East London’s Troxy for a second year, The Relentless Kerrang! Awards will take place on Thursday 12 June.
Kerrang! is excited to announce that Andrew W.K. will be debuting his UK awards hosting skills at this year’s event. Not just a party animal, but a force to be reckoned with, Andrew W.K. burst onto the music scene with a hybrid of metal, pop and dance, combining cheese and sleaze: this Californian rocker is sure to bring the party. Speaking of his upcoming hosting duties, Andrew says: “I’ve gotten to host a lot of amazing parties in my career as a professional partier, but hosting The Relentless Kerrang! Awards will be the partiest party of them all! I’m chuffed!”
Andrew will be joined by co-host Scott Ian (who has co-hosted for the last seven years), who commented: “Holy crap, this is my eighth year hosting the Relentless Kerrang! Awards? I think there are only three things in my life I’ve done at least eight years in a row… Anthrax, my better half and the Kerrang! Awards. That’s some heavy perspective right there. So get your drinking pants on – here’s to another barn-burner of an evening!”
Open voting for The Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2014 starts TODAY – Wednesday 9 April – via Kerrang.com and in the magazine.
Last year saw Bring Me The Horizon win Best British Band, while Biffy Clyro scooped the award for Best Album with Opposites. This year, categories include Best International Newcomer (presented by Troxy), Best Single (presented by Kerrang! Radio), Best Video (presented by Kerrang! TV), Best Album (presented by Relentless) and Tweeter of the Year with several honorary awards also presented on the night.
Kerrang! Magazine editor, James McMahon, says: “There was a moment during last year’s Awards, watching Josh from You Me At Six throwing chairs around, seeing Slayer’s Kerry King deep in conversation with Pantera’s Phil Anselmo and doing our very best to clear up the mess left by Slipknot using tables to get from the bar to the stage, not the floor, where I thought – ‘How can we possibly top the chaos and confusion synonymous with The Relentless Kerrang! Awards in 2014?’ (I’m paraphrasing – people don’t really think like that). But, with the addition of a Vegas theme (we’ve invited Elvis – hope he shows), a new host in professional partier Andrew W.K., and a whole load of exciting stuff I’m going to keep under my metaphorical hat for now, I think we’ve given it our very best shot. Bring a towel. It’s going to be wild.”
Relentless Energy Drink will headline-sponsor the event for the fifth consecutive year. Commenting on the partnership, Relentless Marketing Manager Sam Grant said, “Relentless are proud to be part of the most important day in the rock calendar for the fifth year running and supporting the most passionate and inspiring artists making great music.”
A rock’n’roll highlight of the music industry’s calendar, this year’s The Relentless Kerrang! Awards are again set to attract the biggest and best names in rock and metal, and Kerrang! are committed to putting on an unforgettable night. Open voting for the Awards will close on Friday 2 May.
