In that Great British tradition of blue collar poets, today’s Fresh Chops endorsed newcomer Sean Grant certainly knows how to turn a phrase, and he doesn’t pen a bad melody either.
The Northampton based songwriter will be releasing his upcoming EP We The Working Class on 2nd June via The Shipping Forecast, a poignant release which focuses very much on Sean’s family history.
You can get a taste of the first track from the release called ‘I Am The Devil’ below, which was written about his grandmother and grandfather who fled Ireland to London in order to marry as his grandfather was catholic and grandmother was protestant.
The resulting tune is a perfect marriage of grit, smog, grey British melancholy and a rousing chorus, all rounded off nicely by the talented WolfGang providing a robust folky climax to this Victorian-feeling fable.
The release will be accompanied by UK dates across April and May including a couple with fellow label mates Red Kite, so we’d recommend heading down to check Mr.Grant out for yourselves.
