Jules Rendell is a soulful young London based artist with vocals reminiscent to those of Minnie Ripperton and a poetic, soulful way with words.
Her debut EP The Lotus Bloom is a stunning piece of work musically and artistically featuring the wonderful creative design work of Naomi Jackson on the cover. Already receiving critical plaudits, BBC London’s Robert Elms got in touch to invite Jules to play live on his show earlier this month. You can see Jules singing Token of my Love live at The Hippodrome above.
After emerging from The Royal Northern College of Music, Jules went on to rack up an impressive list of credits, singing with Gorillaz at Manchester Opera House as part of the Manchester International Festival and backing artists such as Keane, Beverley Knight, Aled Jones to name just a few, she’s even lended her vocals to a Nicole Scherzinger single.
Jules is an accomplished live performer too having already graced the stage at venues such as O2 Islington, XOYO, Manchester Academy, The Secret Garden Party, and jazz venues such as Boisdale, The Pheasantry and Pizza Express Jazz Club. Just for good measure, she recently sold out London’s Hippodrome Casino for the live launch of the Lotus Bloom EP.
Birmingham-born Rendell has now made her home in London, where she’s been keeping some very good company indeed. Not only has Goz-i-am (Emeli Sande, Gloria Gaynor, Candi Staton and Beverly Knight) produced her EP, The Lotus Bloom sees Jules joined by a group of world-class musicians including: Emily Holligan: vocals (Plan B, Stevie Wonder) Rob Barron keys (Soweto Kinch, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Al Jarreau.) Lizzie Deane (Boy George, Pee Wee Ellis, Mica Paris, Belinda Carlisle) Jo Phillpotts: bass (Carleen Anderson, Nitin Sawhney, Marcella Detroit.) Feranmi Oguns: drums (The Outlanders.)
