An almost dizzyingly beautiful new offering of Fresh Chops from Vashti Bunyan today with latest single ‘Holy Smoke’.
A hazier musical summer trip through English woodland would be harder to imagine than this delightful new single that spirals hypnotically around a delicate finger-picked guitar part.
The track is taken from her new album ‘Heartleap’ out 6th October on FatCat Records, the most recent material since 2005’s offering ‘Lookaftering’. Bunyans legendary songwriting is still in fine fettle and her voice is as syrupy as ever, evoking a sexual and spiritual longing that feels timeless and effortless.
“The whole point of the album was finally to learn a way that would enable me to record the music that is in my head, by myself.” she says of her new album “I neither read nor write music, nor can I play piano with more than one hand at a time, but I have loved being able to work it all out for myself and make it sound the way I wanted. I’ve built these songs over years. The album wouldn’t have happened any other way.”
Vashti will play a run of UK tour dates in smaller settings with guitarist Gareth Dickson (her first since 2010) in support of the album, with more dates to be added in early 2015.
