Glasswerk premiere: Dieter Meier – The Ritual (Lambert Rework)

We’re very excited to bringing a premiere of a curious video for a beautiful new track from the legendary Dieter Meier today. You can watch the video for ‘The Ritual’ below ahead of his upcoming London show at the Jazz Café on 16 September.

Flitting between guises as a conceptual artist and experimental pop electronic music icon, Meier is possibly better know as one half of Swiss duo Yello. At the age of 69, Meier released his debut solo album ‘Out of Chaos’ earlier this year on the Staatskat label.

‘The Ritual’ is a smooth, delicate piano piece that sits happily in both the mainstream world and the stricter jazz circles, with similarities to contemporaries like Chilly Gonzales and James Rhodes thoughtfully eradicated in a whisp of jazzy flourishes.

“As an artist you’re entering new territories even though by now you pretty much know how you make a video or how you write a novel or whatever” explains Meier of his approach to the chaos of crativity “The territory is always new and your territory always means in a very positive sense that there’s chaos. That there are many things that are unpredictable. That there are many things you don’t know and you always learn. For me, the only reason to do something is to learn something by doing it. I would never do something that I’m just perfect in doing”
