We’re suckers for world music here at GWHQ and this scorching slice of Peruvian funk-soul from Black Sugar just decimated our inbox this morning. Watch the band performing ‘Checan’ live below.

The track is taken from new compilation album Peru Bravo, which tells the whirlwind story of a culture in flux and the burgeoning youth music scene of 60’s and 70’s Peru. Featuring alternative heroes Traffic Sound and Laghonia alongside a selection of unheralded short-lived groups, Peru Bravo is a funk-fuelled ride through a radical decade.
