Lower Than Atlantis are back with their third effort, and the self-titled record is the band at their most ambitious. With a slight twist on their unique sound, the Watford boys managed to clamber their way into the mainstream without losing any of their charm.
Working alone to get exactly what they wanted, the boys recorded this release on their own terms following a split with Island Records, and they sound all the better for it. Bringing the finished product to Sony allowed them to be as ambitious as they wanted, but with that major label backing that can make all the difference. The proof of all their blood, sweat and tears is in the end product. The album kicks off with it’s lead single, ‘Here We Go’, a very telling sign of the sound on offer for the 40 or so minutes to follow, and the direction LTA very clearly want to be heading in.
Tracks such as the recently released ‘Emily’, the summer jam that is ‘English Kids In America’, or the blisteringly honest ‘Criminal’ show that, when left to their own devices, Lower Than Atlantis can bring so much to the stage. And with some recently announced shows, it looks like their stage just got bigger.
