Pinkshinyultrablast Share Umi Video

Pinkshinyultrablast might have a very Russian name, but that’s about as far as clichés stretch for this five-piece band from Saint-Petersburg.

Their first single ‘Umi’ is due for release on November 10th and is a skilfully crafted, beautifully spacious slice of shoegaze that evokes Belle & Sebastian, Caribou and Antlers – it’s rare to find something this self aware and autonomous arriving from our Eastern neighbours, but we’re not complaining. If there are any more bands like Pinkshinyultrablast to be unearthed in Mother Russia, all the better for the rest of us.

The band say of St Petersburg that, “we realised the local indie scene was totally boring and wanted to play something radically different”.

Guys, you did it with style – спасибо.
