Fresh Chops: Alex Calder

We were lured in by the promise of a big smiling man on rollerblades playing guitar and that’s what we sure as hell got from Alex Calder today.

‘Lola’ is the latest track to be taken from his new album Strange Dreams which is set for release on 20th January on Captured Tracks.

Aside from his irrepressibly cheerful visage and obvious rollerblading skills, Calder clearly knows his way around a dirgey pop song as well – this slow burning, anaesthetised shoegazer is saccharine, intense and arresting; a bit like The Flaming Lips overdosing on heroin on a bed of candyfloss.
